Wreckless Eric (LP, Stiff Records seez 6, 1978)

Now, ok, Wreckless Eric might not be as forgotten as other people on this blog, but I got three of his LPs and I always liked his music, so why not post it. This is his first LP of all charming naive popsongs.

Four One & Only's - The End Is Searching (LP, Noet Lachten Records noet 5, 1987)

I posted a LP by this band before at the request of a friend of mine. He looks at this blog for quite some time, but 'you never post vinyl'. Obviously didn't look long enough, or worse, in this day and age of internet that very common thing of not looking, reading or remembering properly. Daily I get requests for re-up as comments, while I ask them to be an e-mail. Oh well. So when I gave back that LP, he said that if I were to post more vinyl, he had some more LPs. (Actually I borrowed a whole bunch of 7"s back in 2007/8). I am done with tapes it seems. Occasionally there will be a tape, just as in the last three years there occasionally some vinyl, but now there will be only vinyl. First I will go through the LPs I borrowed with is all quite new wavey/punky, then some of mine, before launching into posting a 7" a day. I have quite a collection of those, in a lot of different styles of music, which I intend to post without any information at all (I may have less and less time later this year for this blog, or perhaps I'll start a new blog, 433jukebox). But that's all for later. Here today another LP by The Four One And Only's, a Dutch band from Breda, with naive pop stuff.

Joy Division - A Retrospective Part II (tape, Stick-and-Roll Records, 1987)

The same person who borrowed me all those punk tapes in the last few months also borrowed me this. I know there is a lot of Joy Division to be downloaded out there, especially concerts and such like. 'A Retrospective Part II' (I don't have part 1) has various live bits too (Amsterdam, High Wycombe, Eindhoven, Rainbow Theatre), a track from the Warsaw demo and 'Transmission' and 'She's Lost Control' from the BBC. Nothing spectacular. However it also as 'Candidate' and 'New Dawn Fades' from Unknown Pleasures, but according to the cover 'outtakes/different mixes from 'Unknown Pleasures' (Mastered properly)'. Now I am not too sure about that, but no doubt something to think about all night. Oh Peter Hook of the division is going to perform the 'Unknown Pleasures' LP in its entirety in Eindhoven (May 29) and Den Haag (May 28) with his band The Light, part of a world tour it seems. I may go to either one.

Singles from Dr. Freakowitz, chapter 7

Almost more than a year ago, I have posted a serie of singles on this blog. Recently I have found some goodies in my cupboard which I think are worthwhile to share with you also. Singles (both 7 and 12”) that are almost forgotten or cannot be found elsewhere on the internet in this specific version (as far as I could check this). A mixture of synth-pop, dark electronics and symphonic rock music for a film score.
The Limit was a Dutch producer’s duo (Bernard Oattes, Rob van Schaik) that made some singles in the early eighties and even a complete album. Not much of interest apart from their first one, a catchy tune called Photomania.
Kid Montana was a band form Belgium, also early eighties and they also made just some EP’s and singles and one LP (on the famous Les Disques Du Crépuscule, LTM did a reissue of this one in 2008 complete with all the singles). I was completely forgotten how they might sound when hit on their fist EP, Statistics Mean Nothing When You Get On The Wrong Plane. Poppy electronic music with some sharp edges, makes me curious about the rest.
Completely unknown to me is Transfactor, appears to me nw as just another new wave-like act. Probably bought this one in a second-hand shop driven by the band name and the abstract sleeve.
Much more known is of course Frank Tovey, passed away some years ago. Apart from the well-known albums under the name of his alter ego Fad Gadget, he also did some industrial tape-loop things with Boyd Rice and this dark electronic dance track under the name of Mkultra. Listening to it back now I find the B-side of Immobilise with two alternative versions even more challenging.
In Italy in the early seventies there was an explosion of horror B-films in an Exorcist-stylish way with persons possessed by some kind of supernatural evil who were the cause of a lot of blood dripping out of eyes and the beheading of victims by sharp glass plates that suddenly fall down on them. One of them, Profondo Rosso, even got it to some larger cinemas as well and the title song of the symphonic rock group Goblin reached the chartlists (not high, but nevertheless). The whole soundtrack is a cult-album and Goblin, also with some cult-status, made much more film scores. But this one remains their very best. I have ripped the short 7”-version, but if you look good on the internet you’ll find this track and also the complete album in many versions.

Larry Eigner -Around New Sound Daily (tape, S Press 37, 1974)

Larry Eigner has lived almost his life in Swampscott on Massachusetts Bay's North Shore a few miles from where he got muscle incoordination at birth in 1927 - mostly he's been on top of the world and in a wheelchair, while it's a puzzle for one thing, enough is elusive and a lot comes within sight and hearing through glass and radio and TV. From many pieces he's written over a dozen books and booklets have been compiled. (linernotes) Crazy sound poetry!

For now the last tape I borrowed from EU records, but no its not the end of this blog.
